Security Officer- Armed

About the role

The Armed Security Officer provides a physically safe and secure environment for patients, visitors and employees at Sentara Hospitals and Free-standing Emergency Departments. This individual performs camera surveillance, maintains department logs and records, uses computer skills for documentation of daily activities, conducts security investigations, evaluates situations, and takes appropriate steps for professional and timely resolution.

Responsibilities

• Exercises discretion regarding the use of weapons, only utilizing them in extreme attack scenarios after exhausting all non-violent options.
• Maintains awareness of the Concealed Weapons Detection System at division entrances and informs visitors/patients of weapon prohibitions.
• Patrols the campus and grounds, responding to routine and emergency situations.
• Conducts camera surveillance and maintains department logs and records.
• Performs security investigations and takes appropriate steps for professional and timely resolution.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Valid Drivers License with an acceptable driving record
• Virginia DCJS – Armed Officer Certificate within 90 days of hire
• Certified Healthcare Security Officer (CHSO) certification by IAHSS within 90 days of hire
• One year of security experience
• Former military, law enforcement, or security officer experience preferred

Qualifications

• Passes Psychological Evaluation and Assessment conducted by the Sentara selected Service Provider
• Obtains Virginia DCJS – Armed Officer Certificate within 90 days of hire
• Obtains Certified Healthcare Security Officer (CHSO) certification by IAHSS within 90 days of hire
