About the Role
The Security Officer protects the interests of the Hospital by patrolling buildings and grounds, enforcing procedural rules and regulations, and ensuring the personal safety of staff, visitors, families, and property. Maintains security and safety for assigned areas, responds to emergency situations, and documents incidents. Provides logistical support, including scheduling ride services and ensuring hospital vehicle maintenance, and performs other job-related tasks as needed.
Responsibilities
- Patrols Hospital buildings, grounds, garages, and parking areas to check for suspicious occurrences and enforce property rules and regulations.
- Verifies vehicles for authorized parking stickers; issues parking violation warnings, tags, and requests towing when necessary.
- Opens and closes off-site facilities, ensuring users have left the premises; secures and alarms facilities.
- Reports security and general maintenance problems to proper authorities.
- Permits authorized personnel to enter property; controls keys and performs additional security functions.
- Operates and monitors security control panels, alarms, and related equipment for area and visitor surveillance.
- Maintains radio communication with the work team to monitor all areas.
- Responds to and investigates security situations; calls law enforcement if necessary.
- Responds immediately to Hospital emergency codes, taking appropriate action to ensure safety.
- Investigates suspicious activities or security violations with hospital administration as needed.
- Responds to control alarms, including security, HVAC, and fire safety, and monitors public activities.
- Replenishes infant security transmitter and banding material supplies as needed.
- Processes ACI inmate patients according to policy.
- Demonstrates sound decision-making skills in unfamiliar circumstances.
- Verifies ID cards of persons entering the facility; takes action against unauthorized individuals.
- Provides information, directions, and explains rules and regulations to visitors and staff.
- Notifies supervisor of significant incidents and maintains logs and records of occurrences.
- Completes computerized reports on all incidents and assists in filing material.
- Provides courteous assistance, information, or escort to visitors, patients, and Hospital personnel.
- Assists with security-related issues and collects/transports money or small cash transactions when necessary.
- Handles lost and found items; performs infant car seat installation (if certified), tire changes, and jump starts.
- Schedules LaVan and Oncology ride services to ensure on-time appointment arrivals.
- Records and reports vehicle maintenance issues in a timely manner.
- Expedites deliveries to fulfill Hospital department needs and requests.
- Develops and maintains in-depth knowledge of job-related areas, including Hospital policies and procedures.
- Participates in seminars, conferences, and in-services to enhance job knowledge.
- Preserves confidentiality of patient, employee, and Hospital information.
- Performs other job-related duties as required, including maintaining logs, demonstrating flexibility in work schedules, and cooperating in special projects.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required.
- 1-3 years of experience.
- Valid and current state driver’s license.
- Entry-level computer skills preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
