Security Officer (2026-0782)

About the Role

This position is responsible for providing security and safety for visitors, patients, employees, and physicians at Valley Medical Center. The role involves enforcing administrative policies, preventing crimes against property, and performing initial investigations as needed. Security Officers patrol the interior and exterior of buildings, monitor CCTV systems, and operate various electronic monitoring equipment.

Responsibilities

• Oversee enforcement of administrative policies and prevent crimes against property.
• Lock and unlock buildings as necessary for opening and closing shifts.
• Patrol interior and exterior of buildings per assigned shift.
• Monitor CCTV systems and operate electronic monitoring equipment.
• Maintain awareness of lobby conditions and environment of care; communicate with environmental services and facilities for assistance.
• Monitor the Emergency Department (ED) lobby to ensure a safe and comfortable environment.
• Maintain security vehicles, including checking gas, oil, and fluid levels, and cleaning when requested.
• Provide escorts for patients, staff, and visitors as needed.
• Operate the Command Center until relieved.
• Enforce parking violations in lots and garages.
• Provide fire education to staff on all shifts.
• Assist with traffic control when requested.
• Perform security duties around construction projects.
• Assist patients by providing directions, answering questions, and acting as a liaison with other departments.
• Answer incoming calls and provide assistance to ED patients and visitors.
• Issue badges to staff and visitors.
• Communicate unresolved issues to management and participate in service recovery.
• Actively participate in workflow design or process improvement work groups as assigned.
• Utilize available manuals, contacts, and information within the Security office for accurate and quality information.
• Complete daily, weekly, monthly, and annual documentation and reports.
• Maintain confidentiality of all accessible patient information, viewing information only on a need-to-know basis.
• Demonstrate cost-containment awareness by suggesting process or quality improvement opportunities.
• Perform all job functions in alignment with Valley's Service Culture Guidelines.
• Perform other duties as assigned to facilitate patient safety, timely patient throughput, and excellent customer service.

Requirements

• High School Graduate or equivalent (G.E.D) preferred.
• Valid Washington State driver's license and ability to be insured by VMC's carrier.
• Minimum two (2) years' experience as a Security Officer, Law Enforcement, and/or Military Service preferred; excellent customer service skills will be considered.
• Ability to comprehend and translate the Revised Code of Washington.
• Basic keyboarding skills (25 wpm) and experience using Windows applications preferred.
• Current American Heart Association BLS certification or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
• No convictions other than misdemeanor traffic violations.
• Must successfully pass Work Steps pre-hire screening for minimum physical requirements.

Physical and Mental Demands

• Occasional safe patient handling, including transferring or moving patients (or objects) of varying weights and abilities, with or without staff assistance, under the direction of patient care staff.
• Ability to push patients in wheelchairs from hospital entrances to patient care locations.
• Participate in team lifting and operate patient lifting equipment and handling devices accurately and safely.
• Lift from the floor to overhead levels and carry items at waist level up to 70 pounds.
• Stand or sit for extended periods.
• Stoop, bend, reach, crouch, and squat as required.
• Full body range of motion, including reaching from floor to overhead levels, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
• Enter data into computers.
• Walk across the campus, climb stairwells, traverse rooftops, and navigate uneven terrain on the exterior of buildings.
• Restrain and physically apprehend individuals as required.
• Conduct normal security business during and immediately following physical exertion.
• Normal range of vision and hearing, including good depth perception and ability to distinguish colors.
• Flexibility to work a variety of hours as needed.
• Willingness to work in multiple hospital settings, both indoors and outdoors, with potential exposure to communicable diseases and varying weather conditions.
• During inclement weather, assist with patient and staff transportation and spread de-icer on campus roads and walkways.
• Cover other assigned duties within the department, including ED Station coverage, driving the shuttle bus or other assigned vehicles, and patrolling via bicycle or on foot in the parking structure.
• Ability to perform several tasks simultaneously and organize and analyze situations and schedules.

Pay

Salary range: $27.55 - $43.87 per hour, depending on experience.

Schedule

Full-time position, 0700-1500 (Days).
