About the role

Patrols, observes and reports incidents or activities that appear to be in violation of the law or violation of university rules and regulations and of a questionable and suspicious nature; reports accidents involving persons or property; reports probable cause of incidents and pursues appropriate course of action and informs proper authorities as required; directs and controls traffic on campus; handles duties as prescribed by an assigned fixed post orders; enforce and abide by all lawful orders and directives given by your immediate supervisor and supervisory chain of command; testifies in court or in legal proceedings as required by the nature of your position; checks for valid university identification and any other plaque, decal, or sticker issued by the university; issues parking citations; operates and maintains security equipment; keeps records and makes reports; and performs other related work as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Drive a TSUPD security vehicle during their shift.
• Be assigned to a security booth, substation, campus building, and any other area on campus.
• Availability on all three shifts, weekend and holiday work as well as mandatory work periods to include commencements, registration, concerts and other special events sponsored by the university both on and off campus.

• MUST obey all laws, on and off duty.
• During your tour of duty, you MUST treat all persons with the utmost respect and professionalism.
• MUST at all times perform and carry yourself in the highest ethical manner possible.
• Uniforms will always be neat and clean.
• Equipment will be in good working order.

Qualifications

• Must meet the requirements of TCA 38-8-106, Qualifications of Police Officers.
• Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
• Must be a citizen of the United States.
• Must be a high school graduate or possess equivalency.
• Must not have been convicted of or pleaded guilty to or entered a plea of nolo contendere to any felony charge or to any violation of any federal or state laws or city ordinances relating to force, violence, theft, dishonesty, gambling, liquor or controlled substances.
• Must not have been released or discharged under any other than honorable discharge from any of the armed forces of the United States.
• Fingerprints must be on file with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
• A physical examination by a licensed physician is required.
• A good moral character as determined by the thorough investigation conducted by the employing agency is necessary.
• Must be free of all apparent mental disorders as described in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Third Edition (DSM-111) of the American Psychiatric Association.
• Applicants must be certified as meeting these criteria by a qualified professional in the psychiatric or psychological fields.
• A valid Tennessee operator license as issued by the Tennessee Department of Safety is required.
