About the role

This position involves providing assistance and information to all patients, visitors, and staff. It also includes enforcing WVU Medicine policies and procedures to ensure a safe and secure environment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains consistent visibility and presence at assigned locations to provide information and directional resources.
  • Responds to all patient, visitor, and staff requests for information/assistance in a caring, courteous manner.
  • Provides physical assistance, wheelchair assistance, transport services, escort services, and room access to patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Makes recommendations to management, staff, visitors, and patients to improve security and prevent accidents and crime.
  • Reports suspicious situations, incidents, and persons according to system and department policy and procedures.
  • Performs routine building rounds, building door unlocks, exterior building and parking lot patrol, and assists with fire and disaster drills, animal control issues, transportation of valuables, and lost/found issues.
  • Operates Hospital-owned vehicles in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Ensures safety and proper operating condition of vehicles by performing vehicle inspections.
  • Responds to and provides assistance to patients, visitors, and staff during emergency situations such as assaults, domestic disputes, fire, vandalism, bomb threats, theft, vehicle accidents, disasters, etc.
  • Performs patient restraint as directed by clinical staff, and is capable of physical intervention when appropriate.

  • Ensures safety and proper operating condition of vehicles by performing vehicle inspections.
  • Other duties may include incident reporting, routine building rounds, incident investigation, crowd control, restraining patients, disaster response, domestic disputes, med G assists, parking enforcement, consistent presence and visibility, helicopter assignments, media issues, victim assistance, engages in traffic direction, policy enforcement, investigation of alarms, duress, etc., physical intervention, tire changing, battery jumps, parking rounds, effective radio communication, escorts patients/visitors/staff, accurate directions to customers, loss prevention, vehicle assists, transport equipment/staff/visitors/patients, posts assignments for exterior patrol/all canopy/all booths/building rounds/ED, and STOPS training.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Obtain certification in BLS or HeartSaver First Aid within 60 days of hire date
  • State criminal background check and Federal (if applicable), as required for regulated areas
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Security/Safety related certification/education
  • Experience in the Security field
  • Three (3) years of experience in Healthcare Security

Qualifications

Education, Certification, and/or Licensure:

  • High School diploma or equivalent

Experience:
  • Three (3) years of experience in Healthcare Security

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to perform effectively under often stressful situations
  • Good decision making and organizational skills
  • Good written and verbal communication skills

Physical Requirements

  • Sit, stand and walk for the entire shift and/or double shift
  • Lift, push or pull 80 pounds
  • Tolerate adverse environmental conditions for entire shift and/or double shift
