Security Dispatcher - Full Time Nights

About the role
Dispatchers must have the basic knowledge and skills necessary to assist in providing patient care and transportation. Depending on job setting, receive requests for either air and/or ground medical transport, initiating the mobilization of the appropriate teams and communicating with referring hospitals/services. Ability to multitask, be detail-oriented, and thorough in completing daily tasks. Ability to deal with high-stress situations calmly and effectively while maintaining composure in very difficult situations to collect vital information from callers to determine the severity of a situation and the location to those who need assistance.
Listens carefully to collect relevant details and be able to type the details of calls into computers; speed and accuracy are of importance when responding to emergencies. Effectively uses radios and other forms of communication. Works with growth and development needs of a diverse population.
Either setting in the ground or air, perform data entry using the computer, compiling QI (Quality Improvement) data, SharePoint, and typing any other documentation as assigned and maintain access to, and security of, highly sensitive materials. Ability to read and effectively interpret small-scale maps and information from a computer screen to determine locations and provide directions. Searches files, databases, or other reference materials to obtain needed information.
Depending upon job setting, knowledge to operate the computer software necessary to document flights as well as the skill in radio communications with the medical teams and pilots on medical transports. Maintain a sense of pride and ownership for the program. May require sitting for extended periods of time. Depending on location of position, work hours will vary depending on patient needs. This may include overtime, call, backup call, nights, days, weekends, and holidays.
Attends training classes to maintain certification licensure, keep abreast of new developments in the field, or maintain existing knowledge.
Responsibilities
- Receive requests for air and/or ground medical transport and initiate mobilization of appropriate teams.
- Communicate effectively with referring hospitals/services.
- Multitask and maintain attention to detail in high-stress situations.
- Collect and document vital information from callers, including severity and location details.
- Type call details into computers with speed and accuracy during emergencies.
- Use radios and other communication tools effectively.
- Perform data entry, compile QI data, and manage documentation via SharePoint.
- Maintain access to and security of highly sensitive materials.
- Interpret maps and computer screens to determine locations and provide directions.
- Search files, databases, or reference materials for needed information.
- Operate computer software for documenting flights and radio communications with medical teams and pilots.
- Attend training to maintain certifications and stay updated on field developments.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Formal knowledge and training of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) principles, practices, and techniques or relevant dispatch experience is helpful but not required.
- Emergency Medical Dispatch certification or automated external defibrillator (AED) Emergency Medical Dispatch certification should be acquired within six months from date of hire, depending on location and job setting.
Schedule
- Full time, 40 hours per week.
- 12-hour night shifts.
- May include overtime, call, backup call, nights, days, weekends, and holidays.
Pay
Salary range: $17.50 - $28.00 per hour.
