Security Dispatcher
About the role
This job answers internal/external calls for Security Operations, which average 2–3,000 transactions daily. Answers routine and emergency calls for security assistance while obtaining all necessary information required while dispatching security officers to calls for service as well as making notifications to on-duty supervisors. Responds to all emergency situations, all types of Hospital/Clinic codes at any given time, monitors Hospital/Clinic video screens, maintains security log and all associated computer entries; handles all call and on-call for security and emergency preparedness for main campus and regional clinics as well as notifications for security incidents and emergency preparedness issues.
Responsibilities
- Consistently answers calls using standard company greeting.
- Solicit and document information needed from callers to determine level of security assistance and then to dispatch officers to assist callers.
- Responds to all codes/notifications during emergency incidents.
- Remains knowledgeable on current federal, state and local laws, accreditation standards or regulatory agency requirements that apply to the assigned area of responsibility and ensures compliance with all such laws, regulations and standards.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent
- 1 year experience as a telephone operator, dispatcher or related experience
- International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) Certification to be obtained within 90 days of promotion/hire

- Computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patient information.
- Proficient with Windows-style applications and keyboard.

Physical and Environmental Demands
Sedentary Work – Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Normal routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluid or tissue and as part of their employment, incumbents are not called upon to perform or assist in emergency care or first aid. The incumbent has no occupational risk for exposure to communicable diseases. Because the incumbent works within a healthcare setting, there may be occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste within the environment through receipt, transport, storage, preparation, dispensing, administration, cleaning and/or disposal of contaminated waste. The risk level of exposure may increase depending on the essential job duties of the role.
