Responsibilities
- Assist and advise the Principal, Assistant Principal of Discipline, and Director of Security on all security matters.
- Help building administrators locate students and their belongings when legally necessary.
- Absorb and document all required safety drills under the guidance of the Assistant Principal of Discipline.
- Assist the Discipline Office with investigations, including reviewing the video surveillance system and collecting student statements.
- Maintain CPI-aligned practices in crisis response and intervention, and support or complete CPI training as required by the district.
- Evaluate the district's security program continuously and recommend changes as necessary to the Principal, Assistant Principal of Discipline, and Director of Security.
- Establish and supervise procedures for locking and checking each district facility when not in use.
- Review job descriptions and performance responsibilities of security personnel and recommend changes as necessary.
- Cook and supervise bus transportation safety for drivers and students.
- Serve, as requested, as a resource person to address student groups on various aspects of school security.
- Communicate with local law enforcement about regular building checks and special safety or security issues related to the school.
- Coordinate with public safety authorities on matters affecting school security.
- Monitor security practices and incident response to ensure professionalism, consistency, and alignment with district expectations.
- Provide comprehensive oversight of security operations, including personnel leadership, mentorship, and training in de-escalation and crisis prevention, as well as the coordination of daily and event-based security assignments.
Qualifications
- Previous security or law enforcement experience preferred.
- Demonstrated skill in de-escalation, crisis response, and professional communication.
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) training preferred.
Additional Performance Expectations
- Supervise traffic and permit parking procedures for employees, student drivers, and visitors to ensure safe campus access.
- Schedule staffing and supervise security operations for all school-sponsored activities, including athletic events, extracurriculars, dances, and major functions.
- Maintain the ability to intervene in physical altercations when necessary and consistent with district expectations and training.
- Communicate clearly and comprehensively, and demonstrate strong communication skills.
- Collaborate effectively with administration and staff.
- Coach and guide security personnel regarding professional conduct, post expectations, and de-escalation practices.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- This position requires frequent lifting, walking and standing, both indoor and outdoor supervision, and the ability to respond promptly to safety and security concerns.
- The Building Security Director may be required to work extended hours beyond the regular school day, including evenings, weekends, and other nontraditional hours, based on school operations and event coverage needs.
- The Building Security Director must be able to respond appropriately in stressful, fast-moving, and potentially confrontational situations while maintaining professionalism and using approved de-escalation practices.
