About the Role
Responsible for a variety of activities that enhance the security of residents, staff, and visitors.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- Positive employer references
- Good communication skills
- Able to read and write in English with proper spelling and grammar
- Able to speak English clearly and understandably
- Willing to work harmoniously with all personnel
- Able to deal tactfully with facility personnel, residents, family members, visitors, consultants, government agencies, and the general public
- Patience, tact, cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm
- Able to maintain professionalism in intense or crisis situations
Physical Requirements
- Able to move intermittently throughout the workday
- Able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds
- Free of physical limitations to participate in Crisis Prevention and Intervention (C.P.I.) techniques and assist in Non-violent Crisis Intervention Team Hold
- Able to cope with mental and emotional stress
- Subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, and viruses including HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis B
Responsibilities
- Maintain alert attention throughout the entire shift
- Complete rounds of unit/facility as directed, documenting location and status of residents
- Uphold and enforce rules and regulations of the unit/facility with residents
- Assist in maintaining overall safety of the specialty unit and facility
- Complete required documentation in a timely manner
- Attend and participate in meetings, continuing education programs, and in-services
- Report all signs of resident abuse or neglect
- Respect and enforce all resident rights
- Treat all residents with dignity and respect
- Maintain high personal and professional standards of practice
- Supervise assigned post at all times and arrange coverage during breaks
- Sign residents in and out using the “Pass Sign-In/Sign-Out Sheet” and ensure compliance with “Resident Pass Status” list
- Search bags and other items brought into the facility by residents and visitors for contraband
- Assist in locating and returning eloped residents, including responding to door alarms
- Provide special observation of residents as requested and complete the “Special Observation Form” accurately
- Monitor residents’ behaviors from assigned post and address or report problematic behaviors
- Trained in C.P.I. and participate in intervening with crisis behaviors, including physical restraint if necessary
- Perform and document rounds on the behavioral health unit when posted there
- Other duties as assigned
