Duties And Responsibilities
- Patrols and monitors assigned areas of the school buildings, grounds and parking lots, campus housing to deter, detect, report, and stop violations of the law and/or school policies.
- Screens all visitors per school policy.
- Investigates and reports unauthorized or suspicious persons, vehicles, and activities.
- Secures campus facilities and equipment for Rock Point Community School.
- Ensures doors/gates are locked and opened at designated times determined by supervisor.
- Reports Malfunctions of outdoor street lighting to the Facility Manager.
- Aids in the development and implementation of action plans to provide a safe environment and immediate response to imminent threats.
- Assists in controlling classroom disturbances or acts of defiance.
- Requests assistance from school administration and/or police when necessary.
- Patrols and confronts unauthorized persons for questioning and checking for passes and identification cards as needed.
- Directs traffic and parking on campus; checks vehicles for proper parking authorization; determines if vehicles are parked in restricted areas.
- Maintains proper paperwork/reports to ensure all complaints filed with facilities have been signed by the Facility Manager or their designated representative.
- Recommends, establishes, and implements appropriate security policies to ensure the safety of students, staff, visitors, and all school property.
- Assists injured persons and determines appropriate action in a timely manner including contacting emergency medical personnel when necessary.
- Submits daily report of activities, events, and incidents to the Facility Manager.
- Obtains quotes as necessary to procure supplies, equipment, and materials.
- Maintains assigned equipment including security vehicle.
- Assists school personnel in the supervision and control of students, as necessary and/or the discretion of the Principal.
- Attends department/safety meetings and other related meetings as required.
- Assists other departments as required for the purpose of student safety and supporting programmatic activities (e.g. inclement weather transport, emergency transport, graduation, security, annual song and dance festival, etc.).
- May be required to serve as a Volunteer Firefighter for local Fire Department, responding to false alarm or actual fire suppression and fire protection program.
- Aids in implementing emergency planning and response.
Requirements
- Supports and complies with the Rock Point Community School philosophy, mission, and vision statement.
- Holds four (4) hours Prevention of Sexual Harassment training annually.
- Holds two (2) hours of SCAN procedures and reporting annually.
- Maintains confidentiality and proper storage of files according to FERPA (Family Educational Rights & Privacy Act).
- Is certified in De-Escalation, Communicating with Tact & Finesse, Crisis Intervention Techniques, Report Writing, Defensive Tactics, less than Lethal OC & Baton, Non-Physical Restraints, Campus Response, Communicating with Law Enforcement, Pedestrian & Vehicle Contact.
- Exhibits manual dexterity to dial a telephone, key a two-way radio microphone, operate a keyboard, and use a lock and key devices.
- Works in a fast-paced and stressful environment while maintaining the ability to articulate and communicate in an effective manner during emergencies.
- Has the visual acuity necessary to observe and comprehend student movement.
- Is computer literate.
- Complies with RPCS Policy and Procedures, and other reporting policies and procedures of the tribe, state, and federal government.
- Has minimal knowledge of Dine language, culture, history, traditions, and its people for compliance in all aspects of educational programs.
- Has current CPR & First Aid Certification and basic safety training.
- Has a valid government issued driver’s license or identification card.
- Has Federal, Arizona, and Navajo Nation background clearances.
