Security Assistant (Office Automation).

This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other emergency situations, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations. The position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.

Responsibilities

  • Provide automation support to the Security Office by performing word-processing, database management, email, and related functions in support of the staff.
  • Process a variety of queries in automated systems to provide timely responses in support of the mission.
  • Operate various items of access control equipment, including computer equipment for identification and registration processes.
  • Screen all personnel daily to determine individual status and reason for and location of visit.
  • Maintain security information through the use of various databases and computer programs.
  • Assist with record keeping or routine filing of documents.

Requirements

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance; a background investigation and credit check are required.
  • Must obtain and maintain requirements for each Cyber work role assigned.
  • Must be able to obtain and sustain state certification for operating the NCIC terminals.
  • This is a Term position scheduled to last 3 years, with the possibility of extension up to six years depending on management needs.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
  • Direct deposit of pay is required.
  • Must successfully complete a 1-year trial period.

Qualifications

To qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social).

Specialized Experience:

One year of specialized experience which includes:

  • Utilizing screening procedures for personnel requesting access to the installation.
  • Maintaining security information through the use of various databases and computer programs.
  • Assisting with record keeping or routine filing of documents.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

Education:

  • Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial, or technical school, junior college, college, or university.
  • Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.

Proficiency:

This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors.

Foreign Education:

If using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization specializing in interpretation of foreign education programs and deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program, or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
