About the role

The Security Officer Armed Recruit role is a transitional position for newly hired Security Officers preparing to become Armed Security Officers. During the 120‑day transition period, all required training and certifications are completed so the incumbent can progress to an Armed Security Officer role. The primary function is to develop the necessary skills, training, and certifications needed to carry a weapon and function as a fully Armed Security Officer. Sentara Obici Hospital, a 175‑bed state‑of‑the‑art facility on Godwin Boulevard in Suffolk, VA, provides high‑quality patient‑centered care and is a recognized Primary Stroke Center and Magnet hospital.

Responsibilities

• Complete all required training and certifications within the 120‑day transition period.
• Develop the skills, training, and certifications necessary to carry a weapon and function as an Armed Security Officer.
• Maintain readiness for annual fitness assessments and psychological evaluations every three years.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent (required).
• State DMV Motor Vehicle Record and a current valid driver’s license (required).

Qualifications

• One year of security, military, or police experience (preferred).
• Ability to pass pre‑employment screening, including a fitness assessment and psychological evaluation.

Pay

Base pay range for full‑time employment: $19.86 – $29.15 per hour. Additional compensation may include shift differentials, on‑call pay, overtime, shift premiums, extra‑shift incentives, or bonus opportunities. Actual pay within the range varies according to qualifications, experience, location, market conditions, and business needs.
