Security and Safety Specialist

About the role

This job contributes to REI’s success by mitigating and reducing shrink (including theft and fraud by customers and employees) and increasing physical security for people and products in a specified retail store.

Responsibilities

• Assist in conducting Asset Protection training of store management and staff.
• Provide a visible presence and deterrent to protect both assets and employees.
• In consultation with the Market Manager of Asset Protection, make recommendations or take action to address shrink and physical security.
• Proactively partner with key stakeholders at all levels.
• Monitor, assess, and take action to address physical security and safety of retail store(s) and events.
• Maintain an engaging and positive attitude with all members and teams.
• Conduct consistent patrols in and around retail store(s)/events, checking for unsafe conditions, hazards, security violations, and unauthorized persons.
• Observe, verbally de-escalate, and report incidents or suspicious activity to the Asset Protection team and store management.
• Prepare narratives, logs, and case reports as required.
• Represent REI in court when requested.
• Support other market stores with Asset Protection services as needed.
• Adhere to REI’s policies and procedures and ensure their implementation throughout the store.
• Assist management in the event of emergencies, protect evidence or the scene of an incident, and provide direction or information to others.
• Participate in periodic training and subject matter updates for the store team.
• Create and/or execute the security strategy for special REI events.

Requirements

• Flexible work schedule (e.g., nights, weekends, and holidays) and regular attendance necessary.

Pay

REI provides a range of compensation for roles based on skills, experience, geographic location, and other relevant factors. The pay range for this position is $22.02 - $33.03 per hour.
