About the Internship Program

The FUTURES Program is an 8-week internship based at the Netsmart Solutionarium in Overland Park, Kansas. The program combines on-the-job learning, hands-on client-based work, professional development, leadership exposure, and social/networking events. Housing options are available for non-local candidates who meet certain criteria.

About the Role

The Security Analyst Future will collaborate with IT Security and Compliance, Enterprise Architecture, Network Engineering, Support Operations, and other functional areas to enhance the company’s security posture. Interns gain exposure to enterprise firewall clusters, VPN devices, IDS/IPS, SIEM, vulnerability assessment tools, security systems, and security engineering requirements, standards, and processes.

  • Participate in team reviews of security support models and identify process improvement opportunities.
  • Monitor and review change requests to ensure they meet security and compliance requirements without introducing risks.

Requirements

  • Working toward a bachelor’s degree in Information Security or Computer Science with an emphasis in Information Security.
  • Demonstrated passion for cybersecurity, technology, solution design, and self-study.
  • Involvement in school clubs or organizations related to security.
  • Programming/scripting experience is a plus.
  • Desire to learn regulatory compliance requirements (PCI, HIPAA, SSAE Option 18, NIST standards).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working knowledge or conceptual understanding of AWS services (e.g., VPCs, SES, RC2, R3, Route 53, Cloud Formation) or Azure equivalents.
  • Exposure to Identity Management, Access Management, and Directory Services technologies, including LDAPv3, SQL, and NoSQL.
