Secured Watch (Licensed Track) Student Assistant-Solano Campus

About the role

The Student Assistant Secured Watch Stander is responsible for supporting the safety and security of the Training Ship Golden Bear. Secured Watch consists of two (2) licensed track Engine and two (2) licensed track Deck cadets on duty at all times. Watch assignments will generally consist of four (4)-hour shifts unless otherwise approved.

Job Duties

  • Stand a deck or engine watch aboard Training Ship Golden Bear.
  • Completing all required rounds.
  • Maintaining an accurate and legible logbook.
  • Maintaining controlled access to the port and surrounding areas.
  • Providing a thorough watch turnover to the person relieving the watch.
  • Following established shipboard safety, security, and emergency procedures.
  • Performing other watch-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be a currently enrolled student.
  • Must be fit for duty.
  • Each watch must include at least one qualified upper-level student.
  • Knowledge of fire safety and emergency procedures.
  • Knowledge of flooding safety and emergency procedures.
  • Knowledge of overall security procedures.
  • Knowledge of appropriate power outage protocols and procedures.
  • Knowledge of proper incident notification procedures.
  • Demonstrated competency in completing all required rounds.
  • First-Year/Transfer Students:
    • Must be fit for duty.
    • Must be able to follow Night and Standing Orders and instructions provided by the upper-level Watch Stander or appropriate ship personnel.
    • Must be willing and able to learn required watch, safety, and security procedures.
