About the role
We are seeking an experienced Section 508 Technical Support professional to provide analytical and programmatic support ensuring the accessibility of Department of War (DoW) Chief Information Officer (CIO) information to individuals with disabilities, in compliance with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. The successful candidate will serve as a subject matter expert, supporting DoW CIO-wide guidance, evaluation, and awareness initiatives to integrate accessibility into the organization’s culture.
Responsibilities
- Provide expert-level Section 508 compliance evaluation and remediation of DoW CIO information technology resources, including electronic content in various forms.
- Recommend considerations for Section 508 policy planning and formulation.
- Support DoW CIO Section 508 oversight and reporting processes.
- Assess DoD-wide learning management system (LMS) accessibility program management, training, and tracking.
- Issue guidance for LMS and course accessibility policy and technical requirements, verify course accessibility through testing and certification, and track required remediations to completion.
- Develop procedures and infrastructure for DoD acquisition of accessible technology, including:
- Incorporation of accessibility requirements in acquisitions.
- Requirement for accessibility conformance reports (ACR) from vendors.
- Evaluation process for ACRs and inclusion of Section 508 SMEs in procurement decisions.
- Establishment of a DoD ACR repository and validation processes for vendor claims of accessibility.
- Tracking exceptions.
- Implement use of GSA Solicitation Review Tool (SRT) and Accessibility Requirements Tool (ART) (or similar) tools DoD-wide.
- In partnership with Defense Acquisition University (DAU), train DoD CIO workforce in Section 508 requirements.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship with an active SECRET clearance.
- BA or BS degree and over 10 years of prior relevant experience. Additional years of experience may substitute for the degree.
- 10+ years of relevant federal, operations, and business experience.
- Knowledge of Section 508 standards, WCAG 2.0 guidelines, and related accessibility regulations.
- Understanding of commonly used assistive technologies.
- Expertise in electronic document accessibility practices.
- Proficiency in both manual and automated accessibility testing methods and tools for documents and web (e.g., ANDI, MS Accessibility Insights, Color Contrast Analyzer, CommonLook PDF, DevTools).
- Proficiency in using Office 365 applications and a deep understanding of formatting and built-in tools for authoring source documents.
- Experience interacting with Government officials and/or senior military personnel.
- Experience formulating policy, guidelines, and training materials.
- Solid knowledge of SharePoint, Teams, or similar collaboration tools.

Pay
$85,000 - $95,000 depending on experience.
