Secret Cleared Full Stack Software Engineer
This role is approximately 85% remote, but candidates must reside in, or be willing to relocate to, the Baltimore/Washington, DC metro area to support periodic in-person collaboration.
About the role
The Full Stack Software Engineer will support the development, modernization, testing, and sustainment of secure mission software products, working across Java and JavaScript-based applications, user interfaces, backend services, APIs, messaging and integration services, relational databases, automated testing, and deployment support.
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
- Strong Java development experience, including the ability to work with existing Java codebases and safely modernize or refactor them
- JavaScript experience with modern web UI development; TypeScript experience preferred
- Full-stack development experience across user interfaces, API/service layers, integration or messaging components, and database persistence
- Experience with REST APIs, XML, JSON, message transformation, schema-driven data exchange, and custom message formats
- SQL and relational database experience with platforms such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or Oracle
- Experience developing and troubleshooting software in Linux and Windows environments
- Experience with Git, including branching, pull requests, code reviews, and disciplined commit practices
- Experience with unit testing, integration testing, debugging, and defect resolution
- Experience using Jira, Confluence, GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, or equivalent tools for issue tracking, documentation, source control, code review, and team coordination
- BA/BS degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field; 7 years of relevant experience may substitute for the degree requirement
- Active DoD Secret clearance, and eligible and willing to be submitted for a TS/SCI clearance with Full Scope Polygraph
Preferred Skills
- Experience with enterprise or secure messaging, message brokers, ESB/integration frameworks, Apache Camel, Mule, JMS, AMQP, RabbitMQ, ActiveMQ/Artemis, or similar technologies
- Experience supporting DoD, Intelligence Community, federal, or classified software environments
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated analyzers, SBOM generation, security scanning, build gates, and release automation
- Docker or containerized development and testing experience
- Kubernetes experience
- Experience using AI-assisted engineering tools for code analysis, test generation, documentation, troubleshooting, refactoring support, or workflow automation
- Experience documenting design decisions, support runbooks, troubleshooting procedures, and engineering practices
- Familiarity with ISO/QMS, configuration control, change control, or regulated development practices
Pay
The expected base salary range for this role is $135,000 to $170,000 per year. The posted range is an estimate; the actual compensation offer will be based on the candidate’s experience, skills, and qualifications and will be in line with internal equity.
