The Secondary Science Teacher provides basic instruction in secondary education science into middle school and high school aged children utilizing teaching techniques that are consistent with school established objectives.

About the School:
The Yakama Nation Tribal School was founded in 1979. Located on the Yakama Reservation in Toppenish, Washington, it is an 8th through 12th grade tribal school with an average total school size of 130 students.

• Communicates clearly, both orally and in writing.
• Prepares lessons and activities using common core state standards and best practices strategies.
• Administers all classroom-based assessments and standardized tests as directed, including End-of- Course (EOC) test.
• Creates an effective environment for learning through positive student interactions.
• Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals; establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects; and communicates these objectives to students.
• Regularly communicates with parents and/or guardians through conferences, phone calls, grade updates and other means to discuss student progress.
• Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
• Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district, as well as professional growth activities.
• Supervises students in and out-of-classroom activities during the assigned workday.
• Refers students with special needs to appropriate staff for additional educational assistance, in accordance with requirements of Public Law 94-142.
• Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student's activities.
• Works effectively with para-educators and other staff members.
• Performs other duties as assigned by administrator.

Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and stand for long periods of time.
The employee must frequently reach with hands and arms and is regularly required to talk or hear; stand and/or walk; bend, stoop, twist, squat, and kneel; and use hands to finger, handle, feel and perform fine motor manipulations.
The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Anything over the weight limits should be done as a two-person lift or with a mechanical lift.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works indoors, occasionally working near visual displays. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in education or related field.
• Valid Washington state teaching certificate and maintenance of a valid certificate is required.
• Must possess a current First Aid/CPR card.
• Must have no history of child abuse or neglect and drug or alcohol abuse.
• Required to pass a fingerprint check in accordance with 25 CFR 63.
• Required to pass a pre-employment background check.
• Must possess a valid Washington State Driver's License with the ability to obtain a Yakama Nation Driving permit.
• Required to pass a pre-employment drug test.

Preferred Requirements

Enrolled Yakama Preference, but all qualified applicants are encouraged to apply.
