Qualifications
- Bachelor or Master’s of Science degree in Education
- Valid New York State Science teaching certificate with one of the following extensions:
- General Science Grades 7-12 Ext. {5091}
- General Science Grades 7-9 Ext. {4082}
- Chemistry & General Science Grades 7-9 Ext. {5042}
- Earth Science & General Science Grades 7-9 Ext. {5082}
- General Science Grades 5-9 Ext. {4019}
- Physics & General Science Grades 7-9 Ext. {5062}
- Fingerprint clearance from the New York State Education Department
Responsibilities
- Teach syllabi mandated by the New York State Education Department
- Develop lesson plans and instructional materials
- Implement lesson plans and optimize instruction time for effective learning
- Establish rapport with students and motivate them to develop necessary skills and knowledge
- Maintain classroom behavior standards to ensure a functional learning atmosphere
- Evaluate students’ academic and social growth, keep records, and prepare progress reports
- Communicate with parents about student progress through conferences and other channels
- Collaborate with professional staff to address student health, attitude, and learning needs
- Maintain professional competence through district-provided in-service programs and self-selected growth activities
- Create an effective learning environment with displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers
- Select and requisition books and instructional aids; maintain inventory records
- Supervise students during out-of-classroom activities
- Administer group standardized tests as part of the District testing program
- Participate in curriculum development programs and faculty committees
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools
