About the role
The Secondary Counselor plays a pivotal role in supporting students' academic achievement, social-emotional well-being, college and career readiness, and personal growth. They collaborate with students, families, staff, and community partners to remove barriers to learning and foster meaningful relationships.
Responsibilities
- Advocate for student success by assisting teachers and staff in providing necessary opportunities for students to meet high standards.
- Actively participate in or lead teams to review individual student performance and behavior.
- Plan, coordinate, and implement student intervention services in collaboration with classroom teachers.
- Maintain and monitor student academic and behavioral progress in collaboration with school staff.
- Serve as a resource to teachers, students, and parents, actively participating in or leading teams to improve home/school relationships.
- Support the implementation and data analysis of universal screeners, student assessments, and progress monitoring data.
- Manage state testing and/or AP College Board regulations, including testing logistics for students and staff.
- Collaborate with Student Services support staff to provide appropriate interventions and data collection of student achievement and behavior.
- Collect and analyze data based on student performance and plan interventions for struggling students.
- Aid students in course selection and assist with college, scholarship, and employment applications.
- Provide career guidance and information for students seeking a future other than college.
- Attend professional training sessions on identified topics to be used with students.
- Execute other duties and assume other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in counseling or related field.
- Valid Michigan endorsement in counseling (NT) or school counseling.
- Successful experience working with middle and/or high-school-aged students.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience in providing research-based interventions in the affective domain for struggling students.
- Experience in the administration and interpretation of formal and informal assessments.
- Demonstrated positive interpersonal relationships.

Conditions of Employment
- The work year, salary, and fringe benefits will be consistent with the current agreement between the Board of Education and the Livonia Education Association.
