About the role

Responsible for processing and placing soft-line and hardline merchandise, ensuring all supporting materials—floor signage, ad sets, markdowns, promotional sales props, etc.—are set up and displayed according to prescribed planograms for specified departments. Where applicable, finesses, sorts, folds, dismantles, assembles, and stores displays and products on the sales floor following written or verbal specifications to present merchandise in an appealing manner. Ensures all assigned work is completed in a timely manner.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with management and department heads to decide how goods should be displayed to maximize sales interest while maintaining store standards.
  • Maintain department appearance when stocking merchandise, ensuring displays and racks remain orderly by size, color, price, and correct signage.
  • Utilize knowledge of merchandise selection, including proper set-up, use, care, characteristics, and price points to ensure compliance with merchandising standards.
  • Examine and verify quantity, availability, and pricing of merchandise prior to set-up.
  • Ensure assigned areas are fully stocked to merchandise standards and neatly arranged.
  • Communicate with supervisors, store managers, etc., regarding stock additions/deletions, fast/slow-selling merchandise, customer preferences, needs, and problems.
  • Participate in department meetings and exchange ideas for improving merchandise quantities, processes, services, and customer service.
  • Propose new ideas for product displays, job performance, and achieving store/department sales goals.
  • Ensure new merchandise receipts hit the floor daily and back stock consists only of duplicates of floor items.
  • Unpack, stage, and move merchandise as assigned.
  • Assist in creating store displays and performing periodic inventories by counting stock and maintaining clean, orderly storage and sales areas.
  • Perform duties such as operating price tag machines, unloading boxes, pulling merchandise, and setting up shelves according to planogram specifications.
  • Conduct cross-merchandising by displaying related products together to improve customer convenience and maximize sales (e.g., placing batteries alongside battery-operated merchandise).
  • Follow proper protocol for products returned to vendors or warehouses, completing necessary paperwork for reimbursement.
  • Assist customers using professional selling techniques, working as part of a sales team to exceed customer expectations.
  • Become knowledgeable about merchandise, including set-up, use, care, price points, and warranty coverage, and communicate this information clearly to customers.
  • Maintain awareness in assigned areas to deter theft and provide excellent customer service to all patrons.
  • Complete paperwork related to merchandise inventory movement, price adjustments, customer returns, and cash register operations accurately.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs. with or without assistance for duties such as assisting customers, stocking sales areas, etc.
  • Work under general supervision, carrying out assignments with minimal review.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Total of 1 year of experience, consisting of:
    • General Experience: 6 months of responsible experience in clerical, office, or retail sales work demonstrating ability to perform satisfactorily in the position.
    • Specialized Experience: 6 months of progressively responsible experience in retail store merchandising and sales, performing duties relevant to the position.
  • Knowledge and understanding of retailing standards and methods.
  • High school diploma or GED may substitute for the experience requirements.

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly lift and transport moderately heavy objects weighing up to 50 lbs.

Flexible (0 - 19.5 hours per week)
