Seasonal Skate Guard - Willett

About the role

Skate guards are responsible for the safe operation and supervision of the ice surface and the immediate surrounding area during and after public skating times. Position is 5–10 hours per week, primarily evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Skate proficiently.
• Enforce Ice Arena rules and regulations on the ice surface and in the immediate surrounding area; be consistent with enforcement.
• Ensure the safety of all skaters during public skating sessions and assist those who need help.
• Monitor attendees who have paid to skate.
• Maintain a clean and safe environment around the ice arena surface.
• Remain on the ice or within view of the entire ice surface at all times.
• Execute the Emergency Action Plan when required.
• Record all injuries on an Incident Report Form in a timely manner after attending to patrons’ needs.
• Follow universal precautions for infection control as stated in the K.B. Willett employee manual.
• Assist in all janitorial work required after public skate times.
• Know and apply K.B. Willett policies and procedures outlined in the employee manual.
• Communicate with supervisors as needed.
• Operate point-of-sale software and cash drawer.

Requirements

• Skating ability sufficient to enforce rink rules and effectively aid injured patrons.
• Good public-relations skills.
• Ability to work cooperatively with fellow employees.
• Effective communication skills.
• Ability to work in cold, damp, hot, or loud conditions.
• Ability to work evenings and weekends as required.
• Ability to bend, twist, and squat occasionally for 6–8 hours per day and lift 50–100 pounds.
• Ability to read, write, and follow verbal and written directions.
• Ability to continuously walk or stand for 4–8 hours.
• Proficiency in mathematics.
• Ability to work unsupervised.

Pay

$16.83 hourly
