Assist the Exhibitions & Public Programming department at NYBG in executing public programming for visitors. This visitor-facing role requires a friendly, professional demeanor and comfort interacting with the public.

Responsibilities

  • Support set-up, activation, and break-down of diverse public programs including lectures, symposiums, performances, food markets, concerts, plays, and tours.
  • Assist artists/performers with load-in/out of equipment, transportation, and hospitality needs such as artist escort and Greenroom maintenance.
  • Learn basic setup and troubleshooting of speakers and lighting; experience with QSC speaker and mixer set-ups is preferred.
  • Facilitate and delegate tasks to volunteers, freelancers, and interns.
  • Coordinate with NYBG departments (Operations, Security, Visitor Experience) to execute assigned tasks.
  • Collect, retain, and update program data including visitor counts, post-event recaps, and database files.
  • Create a welcoming and educational environment for visitors; assist with wayfinding and crowd control.
  • Organize, inventory, and maintain equipment in storage spaces; prepare and collect materials for programs.
  • Organize printed materials and set up informational tables.
  • Contribute feedback to support program content and research ideas for future programming.
  • Assist with setup and breakdown of tents, tables, chairs, and other event production needs.
  • Attend departmental presentations and briefings on programming and exhibition updates.
  • Utilize scheduling platforms and email to receive and manage assigned tasks.

Requirements

  • Stay up-to-date and knowledgeable on all Garden programs, hours, special events, and current exhibitions.
  • Experience in customer service and/or programs/events.
  • Familiarity with cultural institutions and related programming.
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Suite preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license required.

Physical Demand & Work Environment

  • Must be able to stand, walk, sit, use hands, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Work outdoors in various weather conditions.

Schedule

  • Temporary, part-time position.
  • Required availability on weekends (Saturday and Sunday, including daytime and evening shifts).
  • Additional availability on Wednesdays is preferred.

Pay

$21 per hour.
