About the role
The Mosquito Laboratory & Trapping Technician position supports mosquito surveillance and West Nile Virus (WNV) monitoring efforts in local communities. The role involves traveling to mosquito trap sites to collect samples and process them in the laboratory. Data collected is used to monitor mosquito populations, detect WNV activity, predict trends, and guide timely control treatments.
Responsibilities
- Monitor/collect surveillance traps in an assigned region
- Prepare adult mosquito collections for virus testing
- Sort and count mosquito samples
- Perform timely and accurate data entry
- Legibly record all data as work is completed
- Ability to recognize and troubleshoot issues in field and lab settings
- Surveillance equipment preparation, inventory, and organization
Requirements
- Be 18 years of age or older
- Have a valid Driver's License with an excellent driving record
- Background in Biology, Entomology, Environmental Science or related field preferred
- Recent graduate from an accredited University or College preferred, or experience equivalent to degree
- Attention to detail and ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced laboratory environment
- Self-motivated and able to work both independently and in a team environment
- Required to pass the Illinois Department of Agriculture General Standards Exam (training provided)
- Communicate effectively in English in both written and verbal forms

Pay
$16 per hour
Schedule
Monday - Friday; 7:00am - 3:30pm with flexibility as appropriate
