Seasonal Grain Facility Laborer

About the role

This job is primarily responsible for working at a facility that loads and unloads barges and trucks. This is a general laborer position that performs a wide variety of duties that are based on the daily needs of the operation; may include cleaning and repair of barges.

Responsibilities

• Participate in the company Safety Program and attend daily pre-shift meetings.
• Comply with OSHA, company safety, and environmental regulations (ISO where applicable); wear appropriate PPE.
• Read drafts, open/close lids, tie off barges, etc.
• Load barges to meet draft and quality requirements, oversee deckhands.
• Transfer, load, and move grain to appropriate locations, ensure grain quality.
• Complete documentation timely, accurately, and legibly.
• Clean up including sweeping, shoveling, washing, painting, and other general housekeeping.
• Maintain and repair barges and other equipment as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience: None required, but 1 year’s experience in an industrial environment preferred.
• Skills: Basic math, effective communication, documentation, problem-solving, teamwork, tool usage, customer service, physical demands.
• Physical Demands: Balance, bending, stooping, twisting, kneeling, squatting, climbing, lifting up to 50 lbs., concentration, distinguishing odors and colors, understanding written and verbal instructions, working in confined spaces, working in extreme weather conditions, rotating shifts, working in high dust environments.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
• Knowledge: Basic mathematical skills, effective interpersonal and communication skills, ability to follow directions, ability to troubleshoot problems, ability to work independently and as part of a team, ability to use tools appropriately, ability to remain focused on customer service.

Pay

The expected base pay range for this role is: $16.00 - $26.00. Actual pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including work location, job-related knowledge, skills and relevant experience for the job.

Schedule

Rotating 12-hour shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours (Convent, LA location only).

Environmental Conditions

Heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions; frequent use of personal protective equipment; travel 5%-20%.
