About the role

A short-term CDL driver position offering steady hours with overtime opportunities and nightly home return. This role involves driving local routes within 25–50 miles of Gladstone, safely operating semi-tractor trailers to transport goods, and building professional customer relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Fully participate in the company Safety Program and attend daily pre-shift meetings.
  • Perform all duties in compliance with OSHA, company safety, and environmental regulations (ISO where applicable), including wearing appropriate PPE.
  • Operate vehicle in compliance with company rules and all applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Perform pre- and post-inspection of vehicle to ensure mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order; complete all required documentation.
  • Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions, following signals from loading crew and checking proper positioning.
  • Collect delivery instructions from appropriate sources, verifying instructions and routes.
  • Maintain log of working hours in compliance with state and federal law requirements.
  • Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage in accordance with facility policy.
  • Inspect and clean all trailers and containers prior to the loading process.
  • Ensure truck is loaded to customer weight specifications without exceeding company rules and federal weight maximums.
  • Secure cargo for transport using appropriate securing devices.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • CDL Class A license.
  • Current and valid DOT medical card.
  • Must meet company Commercial Driver's insurance requirements.
  • Basic mathematical skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide).
  • Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to meet all DOT requirements.
  • Ability to safely operate tractor/trailer in extreme weather conditions.
  • Ability to follow directions, interpret instructions, and troubleshoot problems.
  • Ability to use tools appropriate for assigned tasks.
  • Ability to remain focused on exceptional customer service, both internally and externally.

Physical Demands & Requirements

  • Ability to balance constantly/continuously.
  • Ability to climb, bend, and twist occasionally.
  • Ability to concentrate on tasks without becoming distracted, constantly/continuously.
  • Ability to lift/push/pull 50 lbs. occasionally to continuously depending on daily needs.
  • Ability to meet requirement of and utilize all applicable PPE.
  • Ability to open truck hoppers, where applicable.
  • Ability to pass all required testing under FRA and DOT for this position (where applicable).
  • Ability to sit constantly/continuously.
  • Ability to understand and communicate verbally, in person, and over two-way radio (and recognize emergency alarms).
  • Ability to understand and communicate written instructions.
  • Ability to use PPE.
  • Ability to work extended hours, weekends, holidays, and/or alternate shifts as needed.
  • Ability to work in an environment with high dust levels around grain and other bulk products (where applicable).
  • Ability to work outside in extreme weather conditions.
  • Acutely aware of surroundings with ability to quickly adjust to signals or changes in environment.
  • Arm/hand steadiness and multi-limb coordination.
  • Reaches forward constantly/continuously.
  • Uses near, far, and peripheral vision and depth perception for tasks being performed.

Environmental Conditions

  • Work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
  • Frequently required to use personal protective equipment.
  • 100% travel, daily.

Pay

The expected base pay range for this role is $20.00 - $25.00 per hour. Actual pay offered may vary depending on work location, job-related knowledge, skills, and relevant experience.
