Seasonal Engineering Assistant- Design Intern
About the role
The Anoka County Transportation division aims to enhance and protect life by providing safe roads and reducing traffic congestion. This position involves assisting Project Inspectors and Construction Surveyors on construction projects and conducting preliminary surveys.
Responsibilities
- Assist project managers and project engineers with project development activities.
- Prepare project documents, technical memos, and reports.
- Assist Design Engineering with CAD design and spreadsheet design tasks.
- Prepare and review construction plans.
- Perform preliminary scoping activities.
- Perform various other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent education.
- At least 17 years old at time of hire.
- Currently enrolled in a civil technology, construction management, or civil engineering degree program or related field.
- Valid driver's license.
- Must successfully pass a criminal history and driver's license background check.
Qualifications
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans and maps.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and CADD programs.
Physical Demands and Work Conditions
- Standard office environment.
- Variety of county work sites both indoor and outdoor.
- Includes unfinished structures, construction sites, rough terrain, and changing weather conditions.
- Repetitive bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, walking on sloped or uneven terrain.
- Lifting up to 75 pounds occasionally.
- Handling/carrying equipment.
- Driving a county vehicle or personal vehicle.
- Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, fumes, airborne particles, and other hazards.
