About the role
Stantec is a leading global provider of professional consulting services in the fields of environmental sciences, engineering, and archaeology. We are currently seeking experienced Archaeology Technicians to join our dynamic team on a project basis.
Responsibilities
- Working with field crews to conduct archaeological fieldwork.
- Demonstrating skills and experience with field tasks such as precontact and historic artifact identification, as well as soil analysis and interpretation.
- Working under the supervision of a field director or crew lead in Minnesota and neighboring states.
- Occasional laboratory duties may be available on a project specific basis.
- Traveling extensively to project sites.
- Operating and maintaining field equipment including GPS units, digital cameras, tablets, and hand tools.
- Following established safety protocols for hazardous conditions including extreme weather, wildlife encounters, and excavation safety.
- Participating in daily tailgate safety meetings and following site-specific safety plans.
- Exercising stop-work authority when unsafe conditions are identified.
Requirements

- Ability to walk 4-10 miles per day over rough terrain and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather conditions.
- Conduct Phase I survey, Phase II testing, and Phase III data recovery.
- Perform laboratory duties including artifact processing, classification, and curation, as well as artifact photography, database management, mapping, and report layout.
- Maintain the ability to travel to and from onsite jobs and the Plymouth office locations as needed.
- Valid driver’s license.
Credentials
- A bachelor's or master’s degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, History, or related field.
- Previous experience in a field school or CRM setting as an archaeologist, surveyor, or similar role.
- Technical expertise or specialty within Archaeology/Anthropology is advantageous.
- Familiarity with recording field data using ESRI’s Field Maps is highly desirable.
- Work experience in the Upper Midwest area is preferred.
Qualifications
- Commitment to workplace safety and maintaining safe work practices.
- Extensive travel may be required.
- The standard work week is typically Monday through Friday, with overtime and weekend work required based on project demands and weather conditions.
- Projects typically run from March through November, with opportunities to travel for fieldwork during the winter months.
- Multi-week field assignments are common.

$45,500.00 - $63,700.00 Annually
