Seasonal Airport Maintenance Worker

We are accepting applications to fill multiple Seasonal Airport Maintenance Worker positions, typically working between mid-October 2026 through mid-April 2027. These positions are benefitted, overtime eligible, and work a regular schedule of 40 hours per week.
Responsibilities
- Snow and ice removal using specialized equipment such as multi-function equipment (MFE), runway snow blowers, runway plows and brooms, ramp push plows, tractors, sanders, liquid chemical dispensing vehicles and snow hauling vehicles, as well as manual snow removal duties
- Landscaping and groundskeeping including turf management, grading, weed control, planting, cutting and trimming trees, shrubs and flowering plants, and installing ornamental landscaping fixtures
- Operating diesel-powered tractors with mower attachments, small tractors, riding mowers and other powered landscaping equipment
- Performing bituminous/asphalt and concrete repairs on runways, taxiways, aircraft aprons, parking ramps, parking lots, sidewalks, roadways and other public areas
- Installing, assembling, cutting and repairing chain-link fence, barbed wire and sliding gate sections, both manual and electric type
- Installing, repairing and replacing signage, signposts and other support structures
- General cleaning of runways, taxiways, aircraft parking aprons, parking lots, structures and roadways using power sweepers, backpack blowers, power washers, vacuums and other equipment
- Performing rubbish and trash removal, emptying trash receptacles, transferring debris to dumpsters or disposal sites, inspecting drainage systems and checking storm water control equipment
- Installing and replacing absorbent collection devices, assisting in containing and recovering fuel, oil and other pollutants on airport surfaces or near airport water bodies
- Operating mobile and base-station radio equipment and maintaining contact with air traffic control while performing airfield duties according to FAA regulations and Airport Operations Area movement area procedures
- Training co-workers on safe working procedures and proper use of equipment
- Assisting trades, contract and other personnel as directed; assisting with equipment maintenance, cleaning and care; and performing other maintenance duties as assigned
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Possession of a Class B Commercial Driver’s permit and the ability to obtain a Class B license (CDL) with airbrake endorsement within six (6) months of employment
- Satisfactory driving record
- Ability to perform physical labor for extended periods including shoveling and carrying
- Ability to lift, carry, push, pull and position up to 50 pounds
- Ability to work outdoors under severe and varying weather conditions for extended periods of time
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
- Ability to climb in/out of equipment
- Ability to pass a criminal history and employment background check
- Ability to pass a physical examination
Desirable qualifications
- Possession of a Class A Commercial Driver’s license (CDL) with airbrake endorsement
- Previous field maintenance experience at MSP or another airport
- Two years of work experience operating commercial-rated vehicles, heavy equipment and/or large agricultural machinery
- Experience in snow removal operations using a variety of snow removal equipment
- Experience in pavement maintenance, including concrete, masonry and asphalt
- Experience in landscaping, parks or commercial property maintenance
- Experience with chemical applications related to groundskeeping
- Experience in the use of two-way radio equipment
Driving record standards
Safe driving habits are critical for individuals employed in MAC occupations that require extensive driving of equipment on the aircraft operating area. A contingent offer of employment shall be withdrawn if the motor vehicle record contains:
- Any major violation within the past three (3) years from date of offer, including but not limited to:
- Any pending criminal matter for a serious traffic offense
- Three (3) or more minor moving violations within the last three (3) years from date of offer
- Minor violations include, but are not limited to:
- Failure to wear a seat belt
- Speeding
- Failure to stop at a stop sign
- Failure to yield
- Driving under influence of alcohol/drugs
- Open bottle or allowing open bottle
- Failure to stop/report an accident
- Violations as a result of an accident
- Reckless driving/speeding contest
- Making a false accident report
- Homicide, manslaughter or assault arising out of the use of a vehicle
- Driving while license is suspended/revoked
- Careless driving
- Attempting to elude a police officer
- Excessive speed
- Felony: A crime for which a sentence of imprisonment for more than one year and a fine of more than $3,000 may be imposed
- Gross Misdemeanor: Any crime which is not a felony or misdemeanor, the maximum fine for which is $3,000.00, and imprisonment for up to one year
- Misdemeanor: A crime for which a sentence of not more than 90 days or a fine of $1,000.00, or both, may be imposed
- Petty Misdemeanor: A petty offense which is prohibited by statute, for which a fine of not more than $100.00 may be imposed
Pay
- Hourly rate: $29.909+
- $0.60/hour for Class A CDL (increases to $0.70/hour on January 1, 2027)
- $1.25/hour for 2nd Shift (Afternoons, Weekend Afternoons)
- $2.00/hour for 3rd Shift (Nights)
Schedule
- Day shift: Monday–Friday, 6:00 a.m.–2:30 p.m.
- Afternoon shift: Monday–Friday, 2:00 p.m.–10:30 p.m.
- Night shift: Sunday–Thursday, 10:00 p.m.–6:30 a.m.
- Weekend day shift: Saturday–Wednesday, 6:00 a.m.–2:30 p.m.
- Weekend afternoon shift: Saturday–Wednesday, 2:00 p.m.–10:30 p.m.
- Seasonal employees typically start on the day shift for training and move to the night shift for additional training before moving to their assigned shift
This is a safety-sensitive position which will require a pre-employment drug screen.
