Pay
$45.91 – $58.19 per hour (non‑exempt, FLSA).
Schedule
Hybrid Monday‑Friday schedule, 8‑hour days. Minimum three (3) onsite days per week at the Black River building, 900 Oakesdale Ave SW, Renton, WA. Full‑time, 40 hours/week.
About the role
The King County Sheriff’s Office is seeking an experienced professional to support law‑enforcement operations by providing HR generalist services to its employee population. The position covers a wide variety of human‑resource functions, working across the entire employment cycle—including hiring, onboarding, new‑employee orientations, pay‑change guidance, and processing separations department‑wide. The analyst also advises management on employee data reports, vacancy filling, and interpretation and application of union contract language, and collaborates closely with the Payroll team. This is a one‑year special‑duty/term‑limited opportunity ending September 30, 2027.
Responsibilities
- Provide information, advice, and consultation to employees, management, and the public on HR programs, policies, and procedures; conduct technical analysis and assistance.
- Interpret and apply union contract language, as well as local, federal, and state laws and regulations.
- Research and respond to HR and general inquiries, including HR information systems and agency databases.
- Collaborate with leadership, hiring managers, and HR staff on a variety of HR functions and topics.
- Organize and maintain records; create files in LaserFiche; maintain and update HR databases, tools, and other electronic systems.
- Manage term‑limited and special‑duty assignment recruitments, including job postings, candidate screening, interview coordination, and liaison with hiring units.
- Oversee onboarding for non‑commissioned employees: new‑hire paperwork, orientations, salary negotiations, and coordination with hiring units.
- Process position and pay updates in PeopleSoft and manage employee information in department‑specific databases.
- Prepare or supervise the preparation of statistical reports, graphs, charts, and other ad‑hoc reports.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and secure sensitive files and information.
- Complete special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated skill in human‑resources principles and practices with ability to apply knowledge to Sheriff’s Office HR operations.
- Strong decision‑making ability; know when to elevate matters or consult others.
- Strategic problem‑solving, customer service, organizational, analytical, time‑management, communication, and interpersonal skills; ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Experience researching, analyzing, and interpreting laws, policies, processes, and procedures; developing effective recommendations.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively, build relationships, and establish trust with a diverse group of people and professionals at various management levels.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and political savvy; comfortable providing advice and consultation to senior leaders.
- Ability to stay organized, prioritize, and handle multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
- Experience handling confidential records or archives.
- High proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe products.
- Skilled in project research, including web research, data collection, and spreadsheet management.
- Preferred: prior experience providing HR generalist services.
- Preferred: experience with NEOGOV onboarding and insight modules.
- Preferred: experience with position management in PeopleSoft.
- Preferred: administering programs and policies as part of King County employment experience.
- Special requirement: must pass a thorough background investigation, including a polygraph.
