Scrub Assistant - HK - OR - FT - Shift 1

Responsibilities

• Promotes the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
• Functions as a scrub person during operative and other invasive procedures by:
• Assembling supplies and equipment required for the procedure;
• Preparing and organizing sterile supplies and instruments for the procedure;
• Performing accounting procedures in concert with the RN circulator;
• Aiding with placement of sterile drapes;
• Providing instruments, medications, and supplies to the surgical team during the procedure;
• Maintaining an organized sterile field;
• Ensuring sterility of the field and taking corrective actions as needed;
• Preparing sterile dressings.
• Cleans and prepares surgical instruments for processing and transport them to the decontamination areas.
• Aids in post procedure cleaning of the operative or other invasive procedure room and preparation of room for subsequent patients.
• Participates in ongoing educational and competency verification activities applicable to scrub person activities.
• Maintains adequate stock, supplies, and equipment for operating rooms and procedures.
• Manages the patient’s specimens according to organizational policy and procedures.
• Performs interventions necessary to ensure that the patient’s procedure is performed on the correct site, side, and level.
• Maintains privacy and confidentiality of individuals and health information.

Qualifications

• Education: High School or equivalent preferred.
• Experience: Previous medical experience, completion of ORT course, or previous experience as an ORT preferred.
• Additional Skills/Abilities: Capable of handling critical and emergency situations, pressure due to multiple demands and flexibility to handle long and irregular hours. Demonstrates basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology of tissue handling.
