Responsibilities
- Maintains the sterile field and anticipates and responds to the needs of the surgical team.
- Prepares and organizes sterile supplies and instruments for the procedure.
- Performs accounting procedures in concert with the RN circulator.
- Assists with placement of sterile drapes.
- Provides instruments, medications, and supplies to the surgical team during the procedure.
- Maintains an organized sterile field.
- Ensures sterility of the field and takes corrective actions as needed.
- Prepares sterile dressings.
- Cleans and prepares surgical instruments for processing and transport them to the decontamination areas.
- Aids in post-procedure cleaning of the operative or other invasive procedure room and preparation of room for subsequent patients.
- Participates in ongoing educational and competency verification activities applicable to scrub person activities.
- Maintains adequate stock, supplies, and equipment for operating rooms and procedures.
- Manages the patient’s specimens according to organizational policy and procedures.
- Maintains privacy and confidentiality of individuals and health information.
- Accurately washes, disinfects, and assembles scopes for procedures.
- Assesses functionality of scope and reports repair or replacement needs to supervisor.
- Maintains records of endoscope usage and repair logs.
- Accurately identifies patient.
- Accurately schedules the patient and the procedure into the computer system.
- Aids in accurate handling of specimens.
- Aids the physician with endoscopic and diagnostic procedures.
- Functions in the Endoscopic (GI) area.
- Performs work according to rules, regulations, policies and guidelines; complies with standards in the Code of Conduct.
- Flexible to schedule; performs all other related duties as assigned or requested.
Qualifications
- High School or equivalent preferred.
- Previous medical experience, completion of ORT course, or previous experience as an ORT preferred.
- Capable of handling critical and emergency situations, pressure due to multiple demands and flexibility to handle long and irregular hours.
- Demonstrates basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology of tissue handling.
