About the Role

Performs clerical and information technology functions for the medical provider in a physician's office with the primary responsibility of operation of electronic health records. This position has no direct involvement in patient care. Ensures an accurate and complete medical record for each patient. Accompanies the medical provider during medical history and exam to record details in the medical record regarding tests, orders, procedures, and results. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in the organization's Mission, Vision, and Values.

Responsibilities

  • Under direction of the supervising medical provider, assists by documenting details such as medical history, physical exam, procedures, treatments, patient education, diagnoses, prescriptions, and instructions for self-care and follow-up.
  • Assists with records, including proofing for documentation errors or inconsistencies and correcting information.
  • Ensures clinical data, lab and other test results, and physician interpretations are recorded accurately.
  • Alerts provider when record is incomplete and troubleshoots solutions for incomplete orders or results.
  • Notifies provider when lab, x-ray, or other exam results are ready and tracks any delays.
  • Ensures records are completed and signed by the medical provider and charges are submitted within the designated timeframe.
  • Performs other job duties as assigned or requested.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (required).
  • 1-3 years of experience as a Medical Assistant or similar role (preferred).

Skills

  • Working knowledge of medical terminology and accepted abbreviations.
  • Recognition of physical exam process and ability to record exam details into electronic medical record.
  • Computer proficiency.
  • Good communication skills and ability to coordinate with multiple members of the healthcare team.
  • Organizational skills with focus on tracking patient care and improving patient flow.

Physical Demands

  • The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
  • Must have good balance and coordination.
  • Medium work: exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 25 lbs. of force frequently.
  • Close visual acuity, including color, depth perception, and field of vision, is required for activities such as assessing patients, preparing data, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, or extensive reading.
  • Frequent invasive and non-invasive patient contact.
  • Exposure to patient body fluids as well as hazardous or poisonous materials.
  • Ability to react quickly to emergency situations.
