Scribe - Emergency Medicine - San Mateo Medical Center

This role offers invaluable exposure to clinical settings for undergraduates or post-baccalaureate students pursuing careers in healthcare, including those taking time off before medical, PA, or NP school. Scribe hours count toward clinical training for most PA and medical school programs.

Responsibilities
- Document patient encounters in real-time while shadowing physicians.
- Assist with medical charting, including history, physical exams, and treatment plans.
- Work 2-3 shifts per week, including weekends and holidays.
- Stand, walk, and follow a physician for extended periods in a fast-paced environment.
- Commit to a one-year continuous assignment (not a summer position).
Requirements
- Responsible and mature demeanor with a passion for medicine.
- Strong writing skills and quick, accurate typing speed.
- Experience with medical terminology, human anatomy, and physiology is preferred.
- Ability to work in a stressful, high-volume clinical setting.
- Self-motivated with excellent follow-through.
The Practice
This role is based at San Mateo Medical Center, a 447-bed facility with a 16-bed Emergency Department. The ED sees an annual volume of 41,000 patients with an 8% admit rate, focusing on bread-and-butter medicine. Vituity provides scribe support at this site, which has been a Vituity partner for over 15 years. Integrated care is delivered by Vituity-staffed hospitalists and teleneurologists.
