About the role
Landis C. Deck & Sons, a division of the H&K Group, Inc., is seeking an experienced Screed Operator to join their team for asphalt applications on road construction projects, parking lots, and airport runways.
Responsibilities
- Operate asphalt paver and/or screed to apply asphalt according to plans and quality specifications as directed by the crew superintendent to meet daily schedules and estimates.
- Perform additional tasks of other positions as needed and as directed by the foreman.
- Screed operation on the asphalt paver involves making necessary adjustments for proper depth, grade, and finished cross-section of asphalt material using screed controls.
- Ability to operate or learn to operate other equipment required on an asphalt crew, including performing tasks such as oiling, greasing, servicing, and making normal operating adjustments.
- Guide and direct dump trucks while backing up to the machine hopper when operating the paver.
- Manipulate hand or foot levers to control the spread and leveling of asphalt on the subgrade of highways and related surfaces like parking lots, streets, etc.
- Thorough understanding of all aspects of asphalt paving operations.
Requirements
Experience operating asphalt pavers and/or screeds is essential. Candidates should have the ability to operate or learn to operate other equipment used on an asphalt crew. Attention to detail and a focus on craftsmanship are important qualities.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent is required. Previous experience as a screed operator or similar position is preferred.
Skills
Knowledge of asphalt paving techniques and machinery is necessary. Must be able to read and interpret blueprints and plans. Strong communication and problem-solving skills are also required.
