About the role
At RES, we're looking for a Scientist V who is passionate about restoration and sustainability, and who wants their work to make a lasting environmental impact. The ideal candidate will bring expert-level knowledge and leadership to our growing team of environmental professionals.
Responsibilities
- Lead studies and guide internal teams, clients, and regulatory agencies with deep scientific insight in areas such as wetlands, stream morphology, soils, water quality, and more.
- Prepare for field visits with client and agency teams, leading discussions on data collection goals and reviewing field methodologies.
- Review and coach junior scientists on functional assessment reports, focusing on both technical content and storytelling.
- Collaborate with project managers on staffing needs for multi-state projects and participate in regional expert calls to review new SOP recommendations.
- Draft talking points for conference panels, representing RES as a thought leader in your field.
Requirements
- 15+ years of experience in environmental science, or 13+ with an advanced degree.
- Bachelor's degree in natural or physical sciences (required).
- Expertise in one or more disciplines such as wetlands, soils, water quality, stream morphology, ecology, biology, or geology.
- Deep understanding of regional regulatory requirements and permitting processes.
- Strong experience in functional assessments and field/lab data analysis.
- Advanced knowledge of GIS and environmental mapping.
- Proficiency in scientific software and field equipment (YSI meters, GPS, turbidimeters, etc.).
- Skills in project planning, budgeting, staffing, and reporting.
Qualifications
- Advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in a relevant scientific discipline.
- Professional certifications (e.g., PWS, CWB, PG, CERP).
- Regional or species-specific licenses (e.g., RTE survey permits).
- A track record of publishing scientific work or presenting at conferences.
- Recognized leader in a technical association or scientific network.
