Scientist - Protein Engineering & Assay Development

A top-tier global life sciences leader in Austin, TX is seeking a driven Scientist II to join its rapidly growing genome engineering team. In this role, you will design and execute advanced molecular biology workflows and collaborate with cross-functional teams to bring innovative biotech products from concept to launch. Location: Austin, Texas. Job type: Contract.

Responsibilities

• Independently design experimental plans, execute laboratory workflows, and perform complex quantitative data analyses.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical challenges in protein engineering and product development.
• Develop, write, and optimize experimental protocols, technical reports, and comprehensive product summaries.
• Maintain meticulous lab notebooks to safeguard intellectual property according to strict compliance standards.
• Research and implement innovative methods to increase efficiency across laboratory development processes.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional partners in Marketing, Quality, Operations, and Technical Services.

Qualifications

Required: Master's degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, or a related field with 1-2+ years of lab experience, OR a Bachelor's degree with 3+ years of experience. Strong hands-on expertise in molecular cloning, PCR, mutagenesis, and sequencing techniques. Proven experience characterizing proteins using functional assays and PAGE gels. Demonstrated background working with proteins and bacterial functional screening methods.

Preferred: Hands-on experience with protein evolution, characterization, and AKTA protein purification systems. Prior biotech industry experience.
