Your Role

The R&D Scientist I will be responsible for the development, optimization, and commercialization support of Miltenyi Biotec's spatial biology and multiomics sequencing platforms, including MACSima Seq, RNA Sky, and emerging in situ sequencing (ISS) technologies. The successful candidate will work at the interface of molecular biology, next-generation sequencing (NGS), imaging, and spatial biology to develop innovative workflows, improve assay performance, and support product commercialization. As part of a multidisciplinary research team, this individual will collaborate closely with scientists, engineers, product development teams, and project leaders to integrate sequencing, imaging, sample preparation, and analysis technologies into robust end-to-end workflows. The role will contribute to the development of future platform releases, workflow optimization, custom panel development, and technology transfer activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize workflows for spatial biology, multiomics sequencing, and in situ sequencing (ISS) platforms.
  • Design, execute, and analyze laboratory experiments supporting MACSima Seq, RNA Sky, and related applications.
  • Develop new methods for immunohistochemistry, tissue analysis, and molecular profiling applications.
  • Perform DNA/RNA extraction, sample preparation, library preparation, sequencing runs, and assay validation.
  • Support workflow optimization and performance improvement initiatives across sequencing and imaging platforms.
  • Evaluate experimental data, identify trends, troubleshoot issues, and propose solutions to improve product performance.
  • Support customization and optimization of RNA Sky panels and other commercial reagent kits.
  • Contribute to the development and transfer of new reagent kits and workflows for next-generation spatial biology platforms.
  • Assist in adapting existing assays and kits for future platform releases and instrument generations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment of research activities with project milestones and commercialization goals.
  • Act independently to resolve scientific and technical challenges encountered during experimentation.
  • Present experimental results, project updates, conclusions, and recommendations to project teams and management.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary project teams integrating imaging, sequencing, and cell technologies.
  • Assist in training and mentoring research associates and junior scientists when required.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation.
  • Write and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), protocols, and technical reports.
  • Schedule work, order supplies, maintain reagent inventories, and ensure efficient laboratory operations.
  • Ensure compliance with laboratory safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biotechnology, or a related scientific discipline.
  • Minimum 2+ years of relevant industry experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong experience with molecular biology techniques including DNA/RNA preparation, analysis, and sequencing workflows.
  • Hands-on experience with imaging technologies, including fluorescence microscopy and biological sample preparation (FFPE, fresh-frozen, or cryo samples).
  • Experience with NGS chemistries, sequencing instruments, workflow development, and data interpretation preferred.
  • Experience with data analysis for imaging and sequencing applications preferred.
  • Experience working with automated laboratory instrumentation and high-throughput workflows preferred.
  • Strong scientific problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Excellent experimental design and data analysis skills.
  • Strong understanding of molecular biology, sequencing technologies, and spatial biology applications.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within cross-functional teams.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Results-oriented with a strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate complex scientific concepts clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.

Pay

The hiring range for this position is expected to fall between $109,417 - $128,702/year, reflecting the range candidates can reasonably expect to be considered for at time of offer, based on factors such as experience, internal equity, and qualifications. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of considerations, including but not limited to internal equity, experience, education, specialization, skills, abilities, and training. The above range represents the Company's good faith and reasonable estimate of possible compensation at the time of posting.
