Scientist II position located in South San Francisco, CA. Pay: $57–67/hr. 12-month assignment with possibility for extension or conversion based on performance and budget.

Responsibilities

  • Design and execute in vitro antibody discovery and display workflows, including phage display and/or yeast display, to support lead antibody identification and optimization.
  • Perform molecular cloning, antibody library construction, sequence analysis, and bacterial and yeast culture to generate and evaluate antibody candidates.
  • Conduct binding and characterization assays, including ELISA, flow cytometry, and/or SPR, to assess antibody affinity, specificity, and functional properties.
  • Apply molecular and cell biology techniques, including mammalian cell culture, to support antibody engineering, optimization, and mechanistic studies.
  • Support antibody engineering and optimization, including affinity modulation, humanization, and liability assessment, to improve therapeutic candidate properties.
  • Analyze, interpret, and document experimental data using GraphPad Prism, Geneious, and/or Genedata, and contribute to stage-gate appropriate in vitro and in vivo data packages supporting proof-of-concept studies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional research teams to advance biologics discovery programs across therapeutic areas, and communicate findings through technical reports, presentations, and team discussions.

Qualifications

  • BS or MS in Biology or a related field with typically 5+ years of experience (BS) or 2+ years of experience (MS) in a pharmaceutical and/or relevant research environment.
  • Hands-on experience with in vitro antibody discovery display technologies (e.g., phage display, yeast display).
  • Direct experience with binding assays (e.g., ELISA, flow cytometry or SPR).
  • Strong molecular and cell biology skills (e.g., molecular cloning, sequence analysis, E. coli and/or yeast culture, mammalian cell culture, etc.).
  • Familiarity with protein structure, affinity, antibodies and antibody fragments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in antibody engineering and optimization (e.g., affinity modulation, liability engineering, humanization).
  • Experience with antibody library design and construction.
  • Experience in mammalian cell culture and multiplex flow cytometry.
  • Experience with automation of biologics discovery processes.
  • Proficiency with Prism, Geneious and/or Genedata.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including proficiency with MS Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
