Scientist I, Standardized Organoid Modeling Lab

The Frederick National Laboratory, operated by Leidos Biomedical Research, Inc., focuses on addressing urgent biomedical science problems including cancer, AIDS, drug development, and infectious diseases. Key roles include designing CRISPR-mediated experiments, interfacing with the SOM center, and contributing to manuscript preparation.

Key Roles/Responsibilities

  • Designing CRISPR-mediated experiments including gene knockouts, knock-ins, and custom targeted libraries
  • Applying these experiments to organoids and induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs)
  • Interfacing with collaborating investigators from the SOM center
  • Providing guidance, consultation, and responding to queries
  • Assisting in project management and generating activity reports
  • Performing CRISPR-mediated experiments in organoid and other 3D culture models
  • Conducting Infinium-based targeted amplicon sequencing
  • Cloning plasmid constructs when needed
  • Contributing to manuscripts from projects led by the GMC and those supported by the GMC

Basic Qualifications

  • PhD or MD degree from an accredited institution
  • No prior work experience required with a PhD
  • Expertise in generating, culturing, and maintaining organoids
  • Ability to manage and optimize scientific experiments
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Significant publications in peer-reviewed journals and other evidence of scientific achievements
  • Track record in research accomplishments

Preferred Qualifications

  • Expertise in CRISPR/Cas9 technology
  • Experience with software programming and development in Python
  • Experience running scripts and code on HPC platforms
  • Well-developed self-organization, project planning, and time management skills

Hazards

This position involves working with infectious materials, requiring medical clearance and immunizations.

Pay and Benefits

The posted pay range for this job is $93,800.00 - $134,285.00 USD. Additional factors such as responsibilities, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and market data, are considered in extending offers. The salary range is for full-time equivalent positions and may vary based on scheduled hours for part-time positions.
