About the role

The Scientist will lead several research projects under guidance from the Director of Research, with a main focus on investigating the interaction of laser energy with biological systems. This position also supports other departments (Manufacturing, Clinical, Regulatory, QA, etc.) in verifying, optimizing, and validating prospective technologies and treatment/evaluation concepts.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts experimental research aimed at the fastest development of new products and technologies.
  • Designs, builds, and maintains experimental lab capabilities to meet project development needs.
  • Develops, maintains, and leverages thorough working knowledge of the company's current products.
  • Prepares and maintains all necessary project documentation.
  • Generates relevant intellectual property and publications.
  • Interacts with other groups and departments, both providing assistance and utilizing their resources to advance projects.
  • Generates ideas and proposals for prospective R&D directions.
  • Keeps abreast of current knowledge on relevant topics.
  • Analyzes and summarizes collected data, reports results, and adjusts research directions as needed.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of R&D experience in an industrial or academic environment.
  • Master’s or PhD in biomedical engineering, optics, laser physics, or a similar field.

Skills

  • Strong "hands-on" lab experience with demonstrated ability to design, build, and maintain experimental setups and perform scientific experiments.
  • Proficiency in basic optical/laser/biophotonics skills.
  • Ability to statistically process and reduce large volumes of experimental data into meaningful conclusions.
  • Working knowledge of modern statistical analysis tools (AI experience desired).
  • Demonstrated ability to transform experimental results into written reports and presentations.
  • Familiarity with physical, biochemical, and/or biological aspects of interaction of biological systems with directed energy (particularly optical).
  • Experience with mathematical software (MathCad, MatLab), database programming tools, and CAD tools.
  • Excellent oral and written communication (English) and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to interact with customers, key opinion leaders (KOLs), consultants, and academic partners.
  • Ability to work in an environment with competing priorities and in a cross-functional team.
  • Physical ability to lift and carry objects up to 25 lbs.

Schedule

Travel may be required 1–5% of the time.
