About the role
At Central Plateau Cleanup Company (CPCCo), located in Richland, Washington, we are working to provide a sustainable future for the historic Hanford area through the protection of the Columbia River and the remediation of the Central Plateau. To achieve our mission, we need exceptionally talented, innovative, and driven people to help us reduce risks on the Hanford Site by removing some of the most hazardous waste streams and facilities in the Department of Energy (DOE) complex. Our Regulatory Strategy & Integration team is seeking a dynamic Scientist to support our mission in progressing the environmental restoration program through gaining regulator concurrence on Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA) decision documents, monitoring the progress of cleanup, and ensuring compliance with the Atomic Energy Act (AEA) program requirements.
Responsibilities
- Support soil and groundwater remedies through evaluating, reviewing, organizing, and reporting groundwater and soils data, and remedy optimization activities.
- Perform evaluations to determine whether monitoring networks, monitoring plans, and their supporting documents address regulatory requirements and contribute to the completion of environmental cleanup objectives.
- Author, review, and deliver technical and regulatory documents for remedy decision documents within CERCLA and AEA groundwater monitoring to support environmental cleanup.
- Ensure that regulatory documents meet customer expectations and are consistent with previous approaches used for Hanford cleanup as well as meeting the strategic vision for completing cleanup.
- Prepare presentation materials and meeting notes, define investigation needs, and prepare sampling and analysis plans.
- Create presentations and respond to comments from Hanford stakeholder groups such as the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, State of Washington Department of Ecology, Tribal Nations, Oregon Cleanup Board, and the Hanford Advisory Board.
- Work with the DOE customer on scope definition, disposition of document review comments, and project schedules.
- Cooperatively work with DOE, State of Washington Department of Ecology, and EPA in meetings and workshops.
- Work within a structured team on special and routine tasks for completing company baseline scope.
- Coordinate and conduct discussions with clients and regulatory agencies for the purpose of communicating progress and issues associated with groundwater monitoring, regulatory compliance, closure, and corrective action.
- Work with a team of environmental professionals to develop and implement process improvements.
- Report progress and issues to senior management.
- Perform work in a safe, compliant, and cost-effective manner.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline or related technical degree.
Qualifications
Early Career Level Grade 14: Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline or related technical degree.
Early Career Level Grade 15: Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline or related technical degree with 1 or more years of relevant experience.
The higher posted level has a greater scope, complexity, authority, and impact. The level offered to the selected candidate will be based on the needs of the company and the candidate's education, training, and/or experience.
Skills
- Experience with technical writing of environmental reports/documents including field sampling and analysis plans.
- Knowledge of sample collection and analysis.
- Experience interpreting and using field and laboratory analytical data.
Pay
Expected annualized pay range based on full time schedule (40 hours per week):
- Early Career Level Grade 14: $81,500 - $103,750
- Early Career Level Grade 15: $81,500 - $114,100
In addition to base pay, employees may be eligible for variable pay awards.
