About the Role

Axle, a bioscience and information technology company, is seeking a Scientist to join our team at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) supporting the National Cancer Institute (NCI) in Bethesda, MD. The role involves conducting laboratory-based translational research with a focus on drug development for cancer treatment, collaborating with scientific staff, and contributing to the advancement of cancer research.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct laboratory-based translational research focused on drug development for cancer treatment.
  • Study cultured human and animal cell lines, including those derived from cancer tissue, and analyze tissues with and without cancer.
  • Perform genetic, biological, and biochemical assays such as DNA transfection, growth assays, immunoprecipitation, gel electrophoresis, and kinase assays.
  • Perform confocal immune-confocal microscopy of cells.
  • Support the planning and execution of research experiments within the laboratory's research program.
  • Initiate, design, and develop new projects or assays to advance cancer research and development of diagnostics, drugs, and vaccines.
  • Interpret research results, identify shortcomings, and propose changes in experimental direction.
  • Collaborate with scientists, statisticians, and extramural institutions to advance research projects.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and train others in their use.
  • Evaluate, analyze, and interpret research data, and communicate results through reports, presentations, and manuscripts.
  • Prepare data sets, tables, and figures for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Participate in seminars, discussions, and special committees related to cancer research.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Biology, Life Sciences, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a laboratory environment.
  • Research experience in immunology and/or molecular biology.
  • Expertise in mouse handling procedures, including injections, tumor measurements, and dissections.
  • Proficiency in immunologic studies, including multi-parameter flow cytometry and in-vitro functional assays.
  • Expertise in molecular techniques such as DNA/RNA extraction, gel electrophoresis, western blotting, PCR, and immunoprecipitation.
  • Familiarity with confocal microscopy (optional).
  • Ability to learn new techniques and teach others.
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and universal precautions.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, interpersonal, and time management skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).

Pay

Salary Range: $80,000 USD - $87,000 USD
