The Scientist will design, execute, optimize, and validate immunoassays for veterinary diagnostic testing, requiring strong technical skills, data analysis, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration. This role also oversees incoming biological material screening and QC testing.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and validate diagnostic tests for veterinary applications.
  • Provide input on experimental designs and processes to ensure compliance and high-quality output.
  • Analyze data and communicate results effectively to the team.
  • Lead and manage lower-level team staff, translating business goals into actionable development plans.
  • Act as a technical lead on project teams, providing assistance within product development core teams.
  • Support technology transfers of products from laboratories to manufacturing.
  • Author protocols, study reports, SOPs, and other documents for process changes and optimization.
  • Perform complex troubleshooting to assess and correct product malfunctions.
  • Investigate process deviations and conduct root-cause analysis for corrective and preventive actions.
  • Facilitate the USDA licensing process and perform required studies.
  • Perform quality control activities, including QC documents, QC testing, and incoming QC testing of biological and critical components.
  • Participate in special projects and assignments as required.
  • Mentor Research Assistants and provide technical direction after establishing expertise in the role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, veterinary science, or a similar field with four (4) years of prior experience, or a PhD in a directly related field with 0–2 years of prior experience.
  • Experience with experimental design and statistical data analysis.
  • Proficiency in molecular biology techniques, including bioconjugations, immunoassay development, and protein purification (HPLC experience is a plus).
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to translate scientific and technical information effectively.
  • Understanding of veterinary diagnostics, testing, or care practices is preferred but not required.

Working Conditions

  • Regular use of manual dexterity for computer keyboarding and laboratory tasks.
  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, and reaching with hands and arms; occasional stooping, bending, kneeling, or crouching.
  • Occasional lifting and/or moving of up to 25 pounds.
  • Primarily office-based with minimal temperature extremes and moderate noise levels.
  • Frequent use of computers, spreadsheets, databases, email, calculators, fax/copy machines, phones, and presentation tools (e.g., PowerPoint, Microsoft Teams).
  • Laboratory work in Biosafety Level 2 settings, requiring adherence to safety protocols and PPE.
  • Use of laboratory process equipment, chemicals, and reagents; visual inspection and process monitoring.

Pay

Target pay range for this position is $88,000 – $110,000 annually. Pay decisions are based on relevant job-related skills, experience, education, training, and budget.
