Scientist 2, Chemistry - Urgent Need
Job Description
The Scientist will be part of a multi-disciplinary Innovation team supporting a variety of medical technologies and solutions with an initial focus on new drug delivery systems and development of interventional medical devices.
Reporting to a Senior Manager of Innovation, this is a technical position where the engineer will contribute significantly to exciting, high visibility projects and collaborations across the R&D portfolio.
This position will be responsible for the assessment, development, and testing of new technologies for a range of medical devices, including drug-device combination products.
The candidate is expected to design and execute experiments aimed at developing formulations for enabling controlled release of drugs/proteins, and improving our understanding of the drug-material-tissue interactions impacting the performance of medical devices.
Specific expertise sought is in the areas of formulation development using soft matter (polymers, colloids, etc.), materials structure-property elucidation, controlled delivery of drugs or proteins and tissue permeation enhancers.
Job Responsibilities
- Carry out experimental studies relating to drug/device combination technology
- Provide expertise in drug formulation and delivery technologies, soft materials characterization, and drug-biomaterials-tissue interactions.
- Work with project team members to plan and execute technical assessments of coatings for medical devices and drug delivery technologies/products.
- Responsible for the execution of technical work and communication of results to various stakeholders.
- Investigating and resolving technical problems and managing different workstreams to meet program objectives and timelines.
- Author/review SOPs, test/project reports, and other documents as required to execute studies in the laboratory.
- Work with project team leadership to help ensure a smooth transition of projects from the Innovation phase to product development.
Education and Experience
- Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Materials Science & Engineering, Polymer Science, Textiles or related fields is required. Advanced degree is preferred.
