About the role

The Scientific Director of the Stem Cell and Xenograft Core will lead and manage core services related to hematopoietic stem cell research. This role involves overseeing the Hematologic Malignancies Tissue Bank, managing human immune reconstitution studies in immunocompromised mice, and leading research on acute leukemia xenotransplantation.

Responsibilities

  • Management of Hematologic Malignancies Tissue Bank. Interactions including project review and design consultation on use of samples from Tissue Bank.
  • Oversight of human immune reconstitution studies in highly immuncompromised mice.
  • Oversight and design of human AML xenotransplantation studies for Core users.
  • Supervision and training of Core personnel.
  • Oversees the day-to-day operations of assigned area including the supervision of departmental employees.
  • Provide advice and guidance to faculty clinicians, and management of all clinical research personnel activity, to include the oversight and development of training initiatives, audit manuals, and standard operating procedures.
  • Collaborates with the administrative team on strategy development for all operational activities and ensures that appropriate strategies are aligned with institutional objectives.
  • Develop best practices, methods, techniques, and operational standards for clinical research across the enterprise.
  • Ensure streamlined and standardized processes, eliminate redundancies and ensure sound financial stewardship of space, equipment and expenditures.
  • Partner with research finance team and administration to manage clinical research budget/s.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative partnerships. Act as a liaison between key stakeholders, e.g., commercial partners, alumni, industry and legislators.
  • Direct communication of priorities to ensure execution of goals and milestones through regular meetings, status updates, and other written communications.
  • Operationalize and oversee the data collection, archival and reporting of clinical trials metrics. Establish data collection methodologies, data validation, and the implementation of reporting technologies.
  • Oversee internal audits to ensure adherence to quality standards, operational best practices, and to identify potential risks.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Arts, and 7 to 10 years of experience or Master of Science, Master of Arts, and 5 to 7 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
