About the role
The School Transportation Driver acts as a responsible and reliable role model for the Youth while carrying out the task of safely driving youth to and from school each day throughout the school year. They support, implement, and uphold the policy and philosophy of the program and the Agency.
Responsibilities
- Safely transport youth or young adults while following agency policy and state laws.
- Manage the milieu in the van while transporting youth.
- Communicate promptly and accurately within the program/Agency and with external bodies, including scheduling conflicts with the Education Resources team, program Day Coordinators, schools, receptionist, etc.
- Communicate with the Education & Career Resources team about specific messages school personnel relay and/or any scheduling conflicts and/or delays in getting youth to school on time.
- Record and coordinate Agency transportation paperwork (i.e. communication log, vehicle reports, etc.).
- Employ all aspects of de-escalation and behavior management techniques as outlined in CPI protocol.
- Learn, align with, and execute the treatment philosophies, modalities, and practices of the Agency.
Requirements
- At least 21 years of age.
- A high school degree or GED.
- Practical experience working with youth in a work or volunteer setting.
- Valid Illinois driver’s license at all times and follow agency policy and state law while driving.
- Ability to drive a van, maintain a clear driving record, and retain driving approval through the Department of Children and Family Services.
- Regular and predictable attendance.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Maturity and sensitivity to cultural and individual differences.
- Professional demeanor while exercising judgment and discretion in work.
- Follow oral and written instructions.
- Read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and professional journals.
- Attend required Agency trainings and maintain necessary training compliance.
- Flexibility to attend daytime trainings or sessions outside of regularly scheduled hours.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Commitment to the mission, values, and goals of the Agency.
Qualifications
- Basic Information / Schedule Details
- This is a Part-Time, not eligible for benefits role.
- Monday-Friday 6:45-8:45am and 2-4pm on weekdays during the school year.
- Pay: $22.00 hourly.
- Locations: Walsh (Girls) campus - 11600 S. Longwood Drive, Chicago, IL 60643.
