School Social Worker (Part-Time Temporary)

About the role

SER YOUTHBUILD Learning Academy is a charter high school for youth ages 14-21. Its model combines classroom instruction by a certified teacher with enabling students to learn a trade while in school, providing learners with the knowledge, skills, and self-discipline necessary to become successful citizens in a global society.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide direct counseling services to children
• Collaborate with the clinical team to create a treatment plan or an Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) for each child, including identifying specific counseling related goals
• Auxiliary in developing positive behavioral intervention strategies
• Assess students with mental health concerns
• Develop staff in-service training programs
• Work with parents to facilitate their support in their children's school adjustment
• Support teachers with behavior management
• Directly support staff

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university
• Active license/certification as a social worker for the state of Michigan (Must have LMSW and or LCSW)
• At least 2 years experience working in a school-based setting
• Experience with RTI/MTSS and other intervention plans
• Excellent communication skills, specifically the ability to communicate with children of different ages and from different cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds
• Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines
• Exceptional interpersonal communication, computer and organizational skills
• Ability to interact with students, parents and staff in a positive and productive manner
• Ability to work with parents, students, faculty, post-secondary educational representatives and community partners
• Ability to maintain confidentiality
• Experience working in an urban setting
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access)
• Functional knowledge of internet use for search platforms
• Ability to remain composed and work effectively during high pressured and stressful situations
• Demonstrated proficiency in the use of office equipment
• Ability to prioritize assignments, multi-task, meet and manage deadlines
• Ability to represent SER Metro at all times in a positive and professional manner
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule
• Reliable transportation
• Completion of FBI fingerprinting and a satisfactory criminal background check
