School Social Worker

Purpose statement

The School Social Worker supports students' academic success, social-emotional development, and overall well-being by addressing barriers to learning. Working collaboratively with educators, families, and community agencies, the School Social Worker provides prevention, intervention, and support services that promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive school environment.

Essential Functions And Responsibilities

• Provide individual and group counseling to students addressing social, emotional, behavioral, and mental health needs
• Conduct social-emotional and behavioral assessments and assist in developing intervention plans
• Serve as a liaison between home, school, and community resources
• Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and support staff regarding student needs and effective interventions
• Support positive school climate initiatives, social-emotional learning programs, and restorative practices
• Participate in multidisciplinary teams (MTSS, student support teams, crisis teams, etc.)

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Social Work from an accredited program
• State licensure or certification as a School Social Worker (or eligibility for licensure)
• Knowledge of child development, mental health, and educational systems
• Strong collaboration, communication, and organizational skills
• Successfully complete background check
• Experience working with young children, particularly in an educational setting, is highly desirable
• Interpersonal skills that allow for successful work with adults and children
• Ability to collaborate as part of a team
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, highly interactive environment
