School Security Officer (Part-Time)

About the role

The School Security Officer reports directly to the Division of Safety and Security and assists the school Principal in providing a safe environment for all students, staff, and visitors. This role supports the Principal in all safety and security matters, including enforcing school regulations regarding conduct.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in general supervision of maintaining order within the school grounds and buildings.
  • Assists with administrative enforcement of school regulations regarding conduct, and safety and security protocols.
  • Responds to complaints of losses of personal and school property; assists in the investigation of violations of the student code of conduct; develops procedures to deter trespassers from school property.
  • Acts as a mentor and positive adult role-model to students.
  • Serves on the school-based threat assessment team.
  • Provides student safety and supervisory assistance on school premises.
  • Assists with parking enforcement on school grounds and reports accidents on school property.
  • Assists in the establishment and audit of local safety and security procedures, including the crisis management plan.
  • Assists with and coordinates safety and security training for school-based personnel.
  • Assists with developing effective school-community relations and maintaining a human relations climate that promotes a positive school environment.
  • Serves as liaison between law enforcement, fire safety officials, and school administrators.
  • Represents the school in court, as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Experience supervising school-age children or young adults in any of the following or similar areas: law enforcement, security, juvenile justice system, teaching, teacher's assistant, coaching, counseling, or tutoring.
  • Current valid driver’s license.

  • Ability to enforce regulations regarding student safety and conduct.
  • Ability to relate to, communicate with, mentor, and supervise students.
  • Ability to supervise and assist in implementing intervention programs and safety plans for students displaying unacceptable behavior.
  • Ability to communicate, understand, and carry out written and oral instructions, and to prepare clear and comprehensive oral and written reports.
  • Ability to monitor student behavior and deter inappropriate behavior on school grounds and property.
  • Ability to present security information and training orally in front of school administrators and staff in a clear and effective manner.

  • Frequent: Lift or move 26-50 pounds, stand, walk, push, pull, bend/turn/twist waist, manipulate (pick, pinch, etc. with fingers), grasp, feel, talk, hear, see.
  • Occasional: Climb/descend (ladders, scaffolding, ramps, poles, etc.), balance, stoop, kneel, crouch/squat, reach, sit, remain stationary, travel by foot, repeat hand/arm/wrist/finger motion, operate motor vehicle.
  • Rare: Lift or move more than 50 pounds, crawl, bend/turn/twist head or neck, travel by transport, repeat leg/foot/toe/ankle motion.
  • Environmental Hazards: Extreme heat, extreme cold, inclement weather, intense noise, chemicals, bodily fluids, infectious diseases, challenging physical interactions (biting, hitting, throwing objects, encroaching, etc.).

Pay

Band 12, $32/hour.

Schedule

This position is scheduled for four days per week, 8-hours per day, while school is in session.
